Since the year 2001 Markus Stockhausen has been writing works comissioned by the following orchestras and ensembles:
- the Bergische Symphoniker, conducted by Romely Pfund (CHORAL and SEHNSUCHT, for Jazztrio and Symphony Orchestra, 2002)
- the Musikkollegium Winterthur, conducted by Jac van Steen (SONNENAUFGANG for Jazztrio and Symphony Orchestra, 2003)
- the London Sinfonietta, conducted by Martin Brabbins (PORTRAIT FOR TARA, 2003)
- the Orchestra d'Archi Italiana (directed by Mario Brunello – ASCENT AND PAUSE, 2003)
- the Cheltenham Festival Players, conducted by Martin Brabbins (ANY WAY, 2005)
- the 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker (MINIATUR einer Seelenreise, 2006)
- the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra Budapest (SYMBIOSIS, 2007)
- the Swiss Jazz Orchestra and the Camerata Bern (TANZENDES LICHT/DANCING LIGHT, 2007)
- The German Protestant Church gathering in Cologne (ABENDGLÜHEN/EVENING GLOW, 2007)
