March 11th-13th, 2005

"Sound Visions" (Klangvisionen) – Festival for intuitive music with Markus Stockhausen in St. Maternus church, Cologne, GERMANY

Over the course of the last several years Markus Stockhausen and Rolf Zavelberg have established a concert series in the St. Maternus church in Cologne that has met with general acceptance amongst connoisseurs. For the fifth anniversary of this series the Aktivraum Agency will produce the festival “Klangvisionen” from the 11th till the 13th of March 2005 to promote this innovative concert concept.

“The enjoyment of this concert experience is absolutely not limited to insiders. These concerts are existential contact with music that differs from what people usually know from concerts or the media. For this no particular background is required of the listener– all that is necessary is the readiness to listen” – Stefan Müller, editor of the German telecast “3Sat-Kulturzeit”.

The musicians

Musicians from different countries and from completely different traditions will perform as soloists and in combination with Markus Stockhausen and other musicians. They will mostly play intuitive, vital, experimental and spontaneous music.

Participants are: Noirin Ni Riain, a female Irish singer with spiritual songs of various origins; the Tunisian singer and oud player Dhafer Youssef with his very personal creation of Arab music; the American Mark Nauseef, whose concerts with cymbals, gongs, (singing bowls [I think]) and other mystical instruments are evocative of magical rituals, Tara Bouman from Holland with her pure, warm and imaginative clarinet playing; the British grand seigneur of free music Evan Parker, known for his infinite saxophone cascades, the subtle Italian pianist Angelo Comisso as well as the virtuoso Cologne drummer Christian Thomé and of course Markus Stockhausen, "for many the trumpeter with the most beautiful and serenest sound world-wide " (H. J. Osterhausen, Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, 09/13/04)

The atmosphere

For Markus Stockhausen "St. Maternus church with its exceptional acoustics is the ideal place for this music. Rolf Zavelberg decorates it with an intriguing beauty through his paintings, light installations and flower arrangements. This creates space where the exceptional comes into being: for a deeper encounter in and through music."

Tickets

Eight concerts altogether (one concert devoted explicitly for children) as well as encounters through workshops open doors to new perspectives of sound and space and deepen the communication between the eight gifted musicians among themselves and with the listener as an active partner.
